  1. International Major Entrance Scholarship

This UBC scholarship for international students is awarded to exceptional international students entering undergraduate programs at UBC. 

You will receive your IMES when you enter your first year at UBC, and the scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study. 

Eligibility

  • Be new to UBC entering directly from secondary school.
  • Be an international student who will be studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). 
  • Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and intellectual promise, as well as impressive extracurricular and community involvement.
  • Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

Deadline

 If you apply to UBC by January 15, you will be automatically considered for the IMES.

  1. Outstanding International Student Award

This UBC scholarship for international students is a one-time, merit-based entrance scholarship awarded to qualified students when they are offered admission to UBC. 

You need to show academic rigor and display involvement outside of the classroom. 

Eligibility

  • Be new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school or postsecondary (university or college).
  • Be an international student studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). 
  • Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and strong extracurricular involvement.
  • Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars award.

Deadline

If you apply to UBC by January 15, you will be automatically considered for the OIS Award.

  1. International Scholars Program

If you think you have the potential to make a difference in the world, apply to this UBC scholarship for international students.

You need to be an academic achiever who has demonstrated exceptional extracurricular activities, show a desire to create global change, and are dedicated to giving back to their schools and communities.

UBC offers approximately 50 scholarships each year across all four awards. 

You will be automatically considered for the awards that you are eligible for.

Here are the awards. 

  • Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award – Undergraduate students who demonstrate superior academic achievement and are all-rounded with exceptional leadership skills.
  • Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award – Outstanding undergraduate students from impoverished or war-torn areas who have achieved academic excellence under challenging circumstances. 
  • International Impact Award – Exceptional students who have expressed commitment to and solutions for social justice issues, climate change, equity and inclusion, societal health and wellness, and freedom of expression.
  1. UBC Vantage One scholarships and awards

These UBC scholarships for international students are for the Vancouver campus. 

If you are at the top of your class but didn’t meet the UBC IELTS requirement, apply for the UBC’s Vantage.

The program is for academically strong international students who failed the UBC IELTS requirement for direct admission into UBC.

The selection criteria is based on academic achievement, intellectual promise, and extracurricular or community involvement. Some of the scholarships also consider financial need.

Eligibility

  • A new UBC Vantage One student, you’re eligible for UBC Vantage One awards. These scholarships are awarded based on UBC

Apply for the International Scholars Program by submitting the application by the November 15 deadline
International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES)You will receive your scholarship when you enter Vantage One.

The scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study. 

The scholarship totals up to $85,000 payable at up to $25,000 for your first year, and up to $20,000 per year for years 2 to 4.

For students entering their undergraduate studies at UBC in the Vantage One Program.

Granted on the basis of exceptional academic achievement, intellectual promise, as well as impressive extracurricular and community involvement.

All Vantage One students are automatically considered for this scholarship when they apply to one of the programs.
Vantage One Entrance AwardUpto $25,000

At the beginning of undergraduate studies in the Vantage One Programs at UBC. 

The award is non-renewable.

The awards will be granted primarily on the basis of academic merit.

If you have a financial need, you have the option to submit an application for this award so we can also take that into consideration in your assessment. 

On the recommendation of UBC Vantage College.

All Vantage One students are automatically considered for this scholarship when they apply to one of the programs.

Scholarships for the Okanagan Campus

  1. Deputy Vice-Chancellor Scholarship for International Students

These UBC scholarships for international students are awarded to continuing international undergraduate students entering second, third, or fourth year at UBC’s Okanagan campus. 

Scholarships are based on academic achievement in the previous year and are awarded in the following levels:

Average 90% or greater = Award $1,000

Average 80% to 89.99%= Award $500

Eligibility

  • If you have registered at least 80% of a full-time course load for their program in each term of the previous Winter Session, you are eligible for the award in the upcoming Winter Session.
  • You should have registered in a minimum 24 credits in the current Winter Session to remain eligible (minimum 9 credits per term).

Note: 24 credits is the minimum requirement to keep the award in the current Winter Session only. In order to earn the DVC award in subsequent years, students must remain registered in 80% of a full-time course load in every session.

Application

You do not need to apply for this award. All eligible continuing international students are automatically considered for the DVC Scholarship for international students.

  1. Dr. Spiro Yannacopoulos International Engineering Student Memorial Award

Awards of up to $10,000 each are offered to continuing international undergraduate students in the School of Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus. 

Eligibility

  • Students who have completed 30 credits towards their bachelor degree or are entering the second year of their program.
  •  Must demonstrate strong academic achievement and engagement in their faculty, and the potential to make a scholarly contribution within their chosen field of study. 
  • The scholarships are awarded on the recommendation of the School of Engineering within the Faculty of Applied Science.

Application

This UBC scholarship for international students  is a faculty-recommended award.

  1. International Community Achievement Award

This UBC scholarship for international students is an award of $5,000 each offered to continuing international students at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus.

Eligibility

  • Have demonstrated leadership in one or more of the following areas: community service, cross-cultural relations, promotion of diversity, intellectual pursuits, and artistic or athletic endeavors. 
  • The award is made on the recommendation of Student Development in consultation with the International Student Initiative and Faculties at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus.
  • Must be an international undergraduate student who will be returning to the UBC’s Okanagan Campus in the following winter session
  • Must be registered in a minimum of 24 credits
  • Minimum 75% GPA in their top 24 credits, with no failed courses

Application

This UBC scholarship for international students is faculty-recommended.

  1. International Student Faculty Award (Okanagan)

UBC financial aid for international students is up to $10,000 each and is offered to continuing international undergraduate students at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus. 

Eligibility

  • Must have completed 30 credits towards their bachelor degree or be entering the second year of their program.
  • Must demonstrate strong academic achievement and engagement in their faculty, and the potential to make a scholarly contribution within their chosen field of study. 
  • Recommended by registered faculty.

This UBC scholarship for international students is faculty-recommended.

  1. The Finch Family Undergraduate Award

A $11,500 award is offered by Ken and Jean Finch to a third-year student at UBC’s Okanagan campus.

The award is payable at $5,750 in each of third and fourth years of study. Subject to maintaining continued scholarship standing, award recipients will have their award renewed for their fourth year of study.

The UBC scholarship for international students recognizes one outstanding continuing student who has demonstrated academic strength and is a well-rounded citizen.

Eligibility

  • Must demonstrate high academic performance, enhanced by extra-curricular activities such as community service, research projects or summer employment.
  • The award is made on the recommendation of the Adjudication Committee.
  • Must be registered for a minimum of 24 credits in your third year of studies, having completed your first two years at UBC’s Okanagan campus
  • Registered in a minimum of 24 percentage-graded credits in the previous winter session
  • Demonstrated a deliberate and focused approach to your education
  • Minimum of 85% GPA
  • Your studies may lead to entrepreneurship, innovation, community involvement or local economic development

Application

The application form closes around mid-October.

  1. Vancouver Campus Scholarships

There are 3 different types of UBC financial aid for international students available at the campus.

  • Scholarships – Merit-based awards primarily based on academic, community and athletics achievements. 
  • Bursaries – Assessed based on unmet financial need. 
  • Fellowships – Given at the start of the academic year to a graduate student primarily based on academic achievement, research ability or research potential.
